How does the Floc Log work?
The FlocLog works in several stages: First, water hydrates the log causing it to swell. Then, water flowing over the hydrated log causes the polyacrylamide co-polymer blend to release from the log and be dissolved in the water, usually at concentrations between 2-30 ppm (mg/L). Thirdly, through mixing with the surrounding turbid water the dissolved polymer attaches to soil particles, forming a bond that binds the soil and polymer particles into a larger mass, leading to rapid settling of suspended sediment from the water column. Lastly, the sediment is collected and filtered from the water using an appropriate Best Management Practice (BMP), such as jute fabric, sediment retention barriers or rock check dam.
