How does the Falkirk Wheel work?
Engineers and boating enthusiasts from all over the world are coming to see this incredibly simple and efficient boatlift that replaced nine of the 11 locks that ascended from the Forth & Clyde canal to the Union Canal 150 feet above. There are still 2 locks but the Wheel is 115 feet high and does the job in just 20 minutes instead of the 4 or 5 hours that would previously have been required.
