How does the extinction of marine life affect our lives and the life of our planet?

everywhere you see where there is life, there is an eco-system (like a food chain) if one of the species is gone from the eco-system, they eco-system is been disturbed with a result of a new eco-system this might sound like nothing but think about what has been introduced or subtracted from the eco-system example: a type of fish that lives off a type of insect who eats the root of a sea weed that is the only food source of maybe 20 other different marine lives. the fish is the control of this sea weed by eating the insects and keep the population low but once this fish is extinct… the population of the insect is just going to rise like mad and eat all the sea weeds and leaving non for the other 20 marine lives.
