How does the external white balance detection sensor work?
The E-1 uses a light source detection sensor on the exterior of the camera to establish white balance, speeding up the camera’s operation for faster shot-to-shot and initial release times for the shutter. By initially reading the light separately for the CCD, the camera can see a dramatic increase in speed without loss of accuracy.
