How does the electromagnetic radiation damage us?
Electromagnetic radiation is basically energy. Think in terms of sun burn. You get sun burn because of the UV (Ultra Violet light) light. It has higher energy than the color “purple” that you normally see and it penetrates your outer layer of skin and eventually is stopped. However, it stops because the energies from the UV light are transferred to the cells, and in that process, the cells are destroyed and thus, creating sun burn. Now, think of higher energy – x-ray. We take x-ray and it is able to penetrate your skin and is only stopped by high-density structures like you bone and teeth. In the process, some of the x-ray energies are absorbed by your cells and in that process, some cells are also damaged or mutates. That is why pregnant women are not suppose to be exposed to x-rays because it can penetrate and directly shine on the fetus. And that is also why sometimes you wear lead vest, because lead is a high-density material that will stop the x-ray. Now, there are even higher EM
