Answer The initial gravitational energy of the egg becomes kinetic energy as it falls and then this kinetic energy has to be dissipated as the egg strikes the ground. The intent is to make a structure that will absorb the kinetic energy by converting it into work used to break the structure containing the egg without coming apart or breaking the egg.
