How does the current proposed project differ from what was in the master plan that was approved in 1998?
The Oakland Zoo is applying for approval of an amendment to the approved 1998 Zoo Master Plan that would refine and make certain changes to the site plan of the approved California Trail exhibit. The revisions would generally consist of the following: (1) modifying and reducing the area of the proposed expansion from approximately 62 acres to approximately 56 acres; (2) construction of a Veterinary Medical Hospital to replace the existing Veterinary Care Center; (3) modifications to the previously approved animal exhibit area; (4) a new aerial gondola transportation system to replace the previously approved shuttle bus system; (5) relocation of existing overnight camping activities to a new overnight camping area; (6) and establishment of the specific location of the proposed perimeter fence with modifications from the previously approved 1998 general fence location.
