How does the Crosswords Answer Key work?
The solutions to all previous days’ puzzles are already unscrambled but you will need the answer key to see the solution of a partially completed puzzle. *On the day of its release, the solution to the puzzle is scrambled.* On the following day, a 4-digit answer key will be posted with the puzzle at the bottom of our Web site’s crossword page: http://select.nytimes.com/premium/xword/puzzles.html Each crossword puzzle with scrambled solution will have its own 4 digit answer key. While scrambled, the solution “checking” and “revealing” options will not be available. The puzzle can still be solved and the results saved to a disk or your hard drive. Take that 4 digit answer key number (write it down or copy and paste it) and when you open a puzzle (either saved on your hard drive or new), you will see a list of menus at the top of the screen. At the top of the puzzle screen, after you actually open the crossword puzzle, observe: FILE EDIT VIEW PREFERENCES SOLUTION HELP Click on Solution. A
