How does the cost of fiber-cement siding compare to other siding products?
Fiber-cement siding is an alternative to wood siding made from cement and wood fibers. Fiber-cement is widely used as a horizontal lap siding in exposures from 6 inches to 10 inches with a wood grain stamped in the surface, but is also available in smooth-surfaced sheets (4’x 8’) and board widths of 6 inches to 10 inches. The installed cost of fiber-cement falls somewhere between vinyl and wood siding, with regional variations in the cost of all three. Fiber-cement is more dimensionally stable than wood, so there are longer intervals between the need to repaint it. More information on fiber-cement siding is on the PATH Technology Inventory.
