How does the commission gets split?
The real estate sales commission actually gets split into four parts. Take a 6% commission for example. In Wake county, the firm representing the buyer will receive 2.4% of the commission and the listing firm will take the rest, which is 3.6%. Now, within each firm, the commission gets split again between the firm’s Broker-In-Charge and the broker that worked directly with the buyer or seller. The broker that actually did the leg work may end up with only 1.8% of the sales commission.
