It receives a lot of sunlight, and because Italy is a peninsula, it is constantly exposed to warm air and water carried there by ocean currents. The Mediterranean is also sheltered by the Strait of Gibraltar, making it so any storms experienced in the Mediterranean are mild, and not as strong as normal coastal cities that are on the coasts of the open ocean. This means, though there may be storms, you will not experience hurricanes or other oceanic events like that.
