How does the Chi Machine provide passive aerobic exercise?
The goldfish motion created by the Chi Machine (similar to Trager Massage) stimulates and relaxes the sympathetic nervous system, causing the bronchi and alveoli in the lungs to relax and expand. These tiny tubes transfer oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream via a semi-permeable membrane. The expansion of the bronchi and alveoli allows more oxygen to pass from the lungs into the circulatory system. Once in the bloodstream, oxygen travels to all the cells of the body. This explains the desire for deep diaphragmatic breathing after, and sometimes during, use of the Chi Machine and how it effectively increases the body’s ability to absorb oxygen without raising either the heart rate or blood pressure. Furthermore, medical research has shown that the vertebrae are channels for our nervous system. In four legged animals, the spinal column wobbles slightly from side to side as they walk causing important internal oxygenation. With humans, however, there is little movement of the vertebra
