How does the Centre use the principles of Community-based Collaborative Action Research in its projects?
The Centre’s “In from the Margins” project uses Community-based Collaborative Action Research to develop strategies consistent with the principles of Primary Health Care (PHC), to improve access to appropriate health services by Aboriginal people living with substance use, hepatitis, and HIV / AIDS. This project is a result of a need identified to increase access by the community partners during the initial year of the Centre’s Community Alliance for Health Research (CAHR) project, Primary Health Care from Rhetoric to Practice: Collaborative Action for Health and Social Change. The “In from the Margins” project, because it grew out of a community identified need for change, is relevant to the community, focussed on societal change and problem-solving, and is aimed at the sustainability of community initiatives. Consistent with all of the above characteristics of Community-based Collaborative Action Research, this project is also participatory, involving community members, practitioners
