First, it’s important to note that the Questionnaire does NOT ask for information about citizenship or legal status! Nor does it ask for personal identifying numbers like a social security number. Nothing on the Questionnaire identifies a participant as a citizen or non-citizen or as a documented or undocumented resident. Second, by law the Census and its employees cannot share information with any other government agency. In practice, census information is never shared. No one, not even the President, has access to the information collected by the Census.
