Through the licensing process, the Board ensures that applicants receive the appropriate education and training prior to practicing medicine in the State of New Jersey. All applicants must provide information about their prior education, work experience and training. In addition, all applicants must pass a series of difficult examinations which measure the applicant’s ability to use his/her knowledge in a safe and effective manner. Also, applicants are asked a series of questions that relate to their moral character, such as, arrests and convictions.
