Theoretically, a BioSense “region” (state or metropolitan reporting area (MRA)) can be defined for any group of zip codes that a public health department has appropriate authorization to view. Realistically, such a region would need to be represented by an adequate amount of data in order for BioSense output to be meaningful. Public health users at the local level have the option of requesting a “customized” MRA region to support their surveillance activities.
