How does the Average Rating differ from the Just Music Approval %?
The Average Rating measures the overall quality of a product based on an average of individual critic scores. The JMA% simply measures the percentage of critics who recommend a certain product. In plain english, the Average Rating is just that: an average star rating of the reviews counted. And the JMA% boils down to a simple “yes” or “no” from each critic. The usefulness of having two methods is that even if the JMA% is high, for instance with 85% of critics saying “yes”, if the Average Rating is still only 3 stars, you can assume that it probably won’t be winning any awards this year.
