How does the Authenticator make two-factor authentication more secure?

The Authenticator will only submit the second factor authentication information upon successful verification of the target website. This prevents any man-in-the-middle from gaining access to the second factor authentication information or viewing the user login session.

The authenticator is generally a user’s phone device. When the user logs in to a secure account using his/her username and password, an automated message or text is sent to the phone containing a one-time pin code. This one-time pin code is the secondary authentication needed to open a secure account. This makes it harder for anyone, other than the user, to access a secure account. There are traditional multifactor authentication methods but TeleSign uses the phone as a secondary authentication device.
