How does the Act define the term child?

0

Under the Act respecting prescription drug insurance, a child is a person who: • is under age 18; • is age 18 to 25 inclusive, is a full-time student, does not have a spouse and lives with his or her parents. For the purposes of the Act, persons age 18 and over who do not have a spouse, who have a functional impairment that began before age 18, who do not receive last-resort financial assistance benefits and who are domiciled with a person who would exercise parental authority over them if they were a minor are considered children. Children must be covered by their parents’ plan until they turn 18. Where a child who turns 18, is a full-time student and does not have a spouse, the child’s parents must ask their private insurer or the Régie to extend their child’s coverage. Please note that a person does not have to live with his/her parents in order to benefit from child status.
