How does the 810 video BIOS or O/S know what type of flat panel is connected?

0

Information about the flat panel (timing, resolution, etc) is contained within an EDID ROM chip and can be queried by the Video BIOS or the O/S. This information is used to setup the 810 video registers properly. The EDID specification (810 supports EDID 1.x) is a VESA standard and is available from VESA. Some flat panels have this EDID ROM chip built in. If not, you will have to provide this ROM on your system board, and program it with the appropriate EDID information for the flat panel you intend to use. The EDID ROM will connect to the I2C* bus provided by the 810 (DDCSCL and DDCSDA).
