How does that relate to the graph of a square-root function?
Well, in geometry you took a figure and either moved it around or changed its dimensions, but the characteristics of the shape were always essentially the same. In the same way, if we put the function on a coordinate plane, we can transform the figure of a square-root function (or any function for that matter) using some simple rules.
