How does that affect how the radiologists view the technology?
Marichal: When the radiologists are finished dictating, they actually can edit if they wish and authenticate the report at that time, and some do, depending on how many items are flagged for checking on the report, or they can send it to transcription. When a radiologist launches a study, the speech understanding box pops up and is already integrated with the RIS, so there are no interface issues to deal with between PACS and dictation. The system can be set up to each radiologist’s preferences. It will show the text after dictation, and they can choose to edit at that point if there isn’t too much indicated with the red highlight for correction. Or, if there is too much red, they can send it along to an editor. RT: So how many prefer to self-edit, and how many use the editors? Marichal: Right now, I’d estimate that out of eight radiologists who cover any given shift, two or three of them self-edit 100%, and the rest use a combination of self-edit or send it to an editor.
