How does Taste of Vitae work, really?
Taste of Vitae is not a strike card, therefore its effects will work without regard to the range of the combat. You may play Taste of Vitae at long range and gain all of the blood that your opponent lost to damage in that round of combat. Taste of Vitae only counts the blood lost to damage, it does not count the blood spent paying for the cost of cards, nor will it count the blood lost to a theft effect like Darkness Within or Theft of Vitae. Taste of Vitae will not count blood lost to burn blood effects like Blood to Water. Taste of Vitae will count blood lost to damage done by retainers (Murder of Crows), environmental effects (Weather Control, Carrion Crows), the strikes of both minions, and any other blood lost to damage effects during that round of combat. Taste of Vitae cannot be used in combat with an ally.
