How does stress cause ulcers?
In the past, the assumption was that ulcers, particularly peptic ulcers, were caused by lifestyle stress, spicy food, or excessive coffee consumption. Research undertaken in the early 1980’s has pointed out to one major cause of ulcers, however. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylon) is a bacterium that causes 90% of peptic ulcers, as well as gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach lining. There are cases when an infected person may show no symptoms, while in others, the bacteria may only manifest its symptoms after several years after infection. Sources: www.medicinenet.
