How does SRTC interact with Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO)?
A. Communities with an urbanized population of 50,000 or more are mandated to have a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The 2000 census confirmed that Kootenai County has a population of 70,000. The Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO) was formed after the 2000 census confirmed that Kootenai County has a population of 70,000. KMPO addresses the county’s transportation planning needs and provides a coordinated planning effort between the public, cities, small towns, the county, the state, transit providers and tribes. The KMPO Board has contracted with Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) the MPO for Spokane County, for day-to-day operational and administrative needs. SRTC operates at the pleasure of the KMPO Board. For more information on KMPO go to www.kmpo.net.
