How does Sporicidin® Sterilizing and Disinfecting Solution differ from Cidex OPA®?
Sporicidin is a 1% glutaraldehyde sterilizing solution which has been used in hospitals and clinics on endoscopes since 1978. Cidex OPA, a more recent product, is not a sterilizing solution. It is a high level disinfectant containing orthophthalaldehyde, which recently caused “9 episodes of anaphylaxis following cystoscopy,” as reported in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
