How does Speech/Language Therapy help a student?
Each student’s focus of therapy is individualized. The therapist may work with the student on one or more of the following skills. Ø Improve his/her ability to say sounds correctly for understandable speech. Correct sound production is essential for learning to read, write, and interact socially. Ø Improve his/her ability to follow directions, discriminate sounds, and comprehend information. Ø Improve his/her ability to understand spoken language needed for success within the classroom. Ø Improve his/her ability to speak fluently without hesitations, sound/word repetitions, and physical tension. Appropriate speaking rate and rhythm are needed for understandable speech.
