How does someone become a certified bird breeder??
I think you are AWESOME for researching this before you get started. Some people just slap two birds together and expect a perfect situation without doing any research on breeding, inbreeding, nutrtion and potential problems. Then they don’t take them to the avian vet when something is really wrong. This would be an excellent question to ask an avian vet. I doubt he will charge you for this and they would rather give advice beforehand. I think you have to check with your city and state about laws for holding a lot of birds. There will most likely be a permit or liscence. The avian vet will know this too. I would ask for a referral to someone who breeds the birds you want to start with. Ask if you can volunteer to see if this is what you want to do for sure. It’s a great way to build a professional contact too for later. Attend bird shows, often breeders swap birds to prevent inbreeding. And for different stock. Best wishes on your new adventure. Good luck!!
