This is how Sedimentary Rock is made. Any rock, metamorphic or igneous is eventually eroded away. These particles compact (though various processes) and once compacted enough they make Sedimentary rocks. If soil is compacted, or placed in the right temp/pressure zone it would produce a Sedimentary rock as well.
