How does socialization helps an individual to function in society?
Most people require some kind of interaction with other people in order to maintain their sanity. Socialization helps an individual to learn what kind of behaviour is acceptable in society, and also what the consequences are when you are rude or act unkindly to others. It allows us to form opinions of what kind of behaviour we want to exhibit in order to have healthy relationships with others.
Only in a consensus approach could we say that it ‘helps’ an individual to function. We could perhaps say that socialization is the act/action of indoctrinating new members of a society, whether children or immigrants, to accept that societies values no matter how unfair or perverse. Feminists certainly believe that the act of socialization merely reinforces the partiarchy and don’t even get me started on the Marxists……
