How does smoking increase my chances of lung cancer?
According to the National Cancer Institute, cigarette smoke contains nearly 4,000 chemical agents, along with over 60 carcinogens. Many of these substances are toxic to the human body, which explains why smoking is responsible for nearly 90% of all lung cancer cases within the United States. An individual’s chances of developing lung cancer are directly related to the number of cigarettes he/she smokes per day, as well as how many years he/she continues to smoke. Smoking even a couple cigarettes a day will likely increase a person’s odds of attaining lung cancer. Naturally, the more cigarettes a person smokes per day, and the longer he/she chooses to smoke, the greater his/her likelihood of developing lung cancer will be. Back to the top.
