How does smoking affect the body physically and emotionally?
Besides the obvious risk for lung cancer, nicotine damages the structures of the lungs irreversibly so when a person who smokes gets older they will have COPD and not be able to make their bed without getting out of breath. Nicotine also damages blood vessels causing hardening of the arteries which causes hypertension, coronary artery disease, and peripheral vascular disease which all put smokers at risk for a heart attack. The hardening of the arteries also puts a person at risk for stroke or aneurysms. Smoking will kill you.
