How does sizing of board 1 or 2 sides affect the manufacturing process of tubes?
The biggest thing to consider is that sizing will increase the moisture “hold out” characteristics of the paper. This will mean you will have to either increase the solids in your glue or you’ll have to play with winder speed or cure times in order to insure proper bond. The consistency of sizing of the paper will be critical, as large variation in moisture hold out will cause variability in you process and product. Paper sized on one side only can be tricky to work with, especially if it is on body ply paper that is glued on both sides. This will affect the ability for the adhesive to penetrate the board fibers which then allows the adhesive to bond each layer of board.
