How does Sizer handle Service Conditions and Preservative Treatment?
When selecting “Beam” in Beam mode and “Wet” service conditions, “Timber” sections are greater than 89 mm in thickness; thus only compression is reduced according to CSA 086-01 Table 5.4.2. When using type “Floor Joist” or “Roof Joist” in Beam mode and “Wet” service condition is checked, “Lumber” sections that are less than 89 mm in thickness are reduced in capacity according to CSA 086-01 Table 5.4.2. Furthermore, when “Wet” service condition is selected, the calculation of KL is also effected according to CSA 086-01 clause 6.5.6.4.4. The value of KS is not shown in the Addition Data section. When selecting “Beam” in Beam mode and “Preservative Treatment” is checked, “Timber” sections are greater than 89 mm in thickness; thus capacities are not reduced according to CSA 086-01 Table 5.4.3. When using type “Floor Joist” or “Roof Joist” in Beam mode and Preservative Treatment is checked, “Lumber” sections that are less than 89 mm in thickness are reduced in capacity according to CSA 086-
