How does Shaw Cable filter Spam messages?
An automated system has been put in place that scans every email message that arrives on the Shaw Cable network for Spam Tokens. A Token is a word, phrase or message characteristic common among Spam messages. Examples are the words click below to be removed and limited time only and messages that do not include a senders name or consist entirely of images. Each time a token appears in a message, the message is assigned a number of points. At the end of processing, the points are added up and if the number of points exceeds a predetermined limit, the system identifies the email as Spam. If the points are below that limit, the email passes unchanged onto the server for you to download it as usual to your email client. When a message has been identified as Spam, it is encapsulated (added as an attachment) within a warning message and the text [SPAM] is added to the beginning of the original subject line.
