How does Shared Hosting Security Service (SHSS) address security in a shared environment?

HSS allows several top-level domains to use encryption from a single certificate issued to the Web host’s site after each domain has been individually authenticated. This addresses the security concerns outlined in the last question. A shared SSL certificate is issued to the Web host, which is installed in the same way as a dedicated certificate. However, the certificate it is linked to each Secure Site Seal issued to individual domain owners. When a seal is clicked on, VeriSign completes a real-time check to verify if the seal is linked to the shared certificate installed by the Web host on their Web server. If the domain and business have been positively authenticated and the seal links to the Web host’s certificate, a message is displayed verifying this information. The message clearly states to the consumer that they are visiting a “VeriSign Secure Site,” and encryption is provided by the named Web host.
