How does selective breeding of domesticated animals increase crop yield?

Selective breeding means you can use a breeds best traits to ensure good healthy offspring. If you know a certain breed, or even blood line is known to produce runts, sickly or low live birth rates then its not the the owners best interests to breed from them. Putting those good traits into breeding also means that the next generation are as fit and healthy as possible and will then (in theory) go on to produce a better “crop” next time as well. It also gives the ability to kill off bad traits making the breed stronger.
