How does saving children with RUTF help the long-term development? Doesn’t that just create unsustainable population growth and more mouths that cannot be fed in the future?
By treating young children with RUTF we are not only saving lives but also intervening at a vital point of body and brain development. Children who survive to adulthood without treatment may be developmentally challenged both physically and mentally. Children who are treated can develop to their full capacity and are able to live healthier and more productive lives. By supporting local farmers and producers we are also directly helping to develop local economies and communities. Much evidence indicates that as communities become more developed, children, and notably girls, have more access to education.
