SAM provides different options for authenticating users. The library can either have SAM interface directly with the Integrated Library System (ILS) in real-time via SIP, Patron API or ODBC protocols or a student management system. The library may also elect to do a one-time patron import into the SAM database, eliminating the need to purchase the protocol licensing from their ILS vendor.
