How does Restorative Justice work?
Restorative Justice is a process that creates and oversees a structured conversation between victims and perpetrators. The aim is to repair the harm caused by an offence that has taken place in the home, be it criminal or non-criminal. In Birmingham, the Children’s Society was commissioned to deliver the training to residential home staff. Five children’s homes were randomly selected for the pilot and a further six allocated to a control group who will not get the intervention during the pilot. The evaluation data will demonstrate any differences between the outputs for homes using Restorative Justice and those that are operating standard disciplinary procedures.
