Well there are many variation of Proportional Representation but the simplist is Direct Representation. This is where the exact percentage of the votes transfers to the number of seats your party gets in parliament. So the Labours 35% of the vote would translate to 219 seats, the Conservatives 32% to 200 seats and the Lib Dems 22.1% 138 seats, (more than double their current number.) This would in turn create a “hung parliament” where no party had an outright majority, not necessarily a bad thing, but no government is Britain has every really functioned long term with a Hung Parliament. The way through a hung parliament is for two parties to form collation; this has been popular in other major democracies but never in Britain. Personally I think a hung parliament would be good for Britain as it would force parties to compromise and ensure only legislation that the majority of the electorate favoured was passed.
