How does Project Youth of Northwestern New Jersey provide mentoring?
We recruit adult volunteers from the community to serve as one-to-one mentors with youth that are involved in the social service system. Matches meet weekly for a minimum of one year. Mentors assist with academic and educational activities, and trips into the community, where they can explore additional recreational and youth developmental activities. Regular opportunities are provided for youth and mentors to interact with each other in a safe setting. These opportunities include an annual picnic, a holiday party, halloween party, and smaller, age based get togethers such as An Almost Slumber Party for the younger children, Scrapbooking for the girls, and various educational workshops geared towards middle school aged children through high school. Project Youth of Northwestern New Jersey takes a broad developmental approach to mentoring that focuses on helping youth build their own capacity to succeed in education and in life.
