How does private health care work in the UK?
I have never understood why ny British person would have private healthcare insurance. In an accident, an ambulance would be called and would take you to the nearest NHS hopsital, where you would be treated under the NHS. if you had a long convalescence you could opt to be moved to a private hospital, but whether or not you choose to take that option depends on whether there is one near you home. If you need a non-urgent treatment for which there is a waiting list on the NHS, then private heath insurance might mean you get seen quicker, and get to choose your specialist or consultant – although he is probably employed by the NHS, You might also be offered a wider variety of treatment options, but personally I can’t imagine it’s worth the extra cost. My experience of the NHS is that it is fantastic when you need it. My sister was diagnosed with bone cancer about 12 years ago, and was in hospital within four days having an operation to remove the bone and put in a titanium prosthesis. Th
