How does phosphate affect root growth?
There seems to be some confusion about this. Some sources say that it does have an effect on root growth, increasing it, others say that there is no effect at all. If it does then the opinion is that low phosphate increases lateral root growth over primary root growth via increased lateral root density and length (see 3rd reference!). However many more university references claim that it has no effect at all, the effects being incorrectly interpreted etc.
