How does PCS determine the dates of a catastrophe?
In determining an official date(s) of occurrence of a PCS catastrophe, PCS staff may consider factors such as meteorological, seismological and/or other scientific data, as well as information provided by national and local authorities. In those instances where a catastrophe is judged to have continued to produce materially significant insured property damage beyond the initially announced dates, PCS may extend the official date(s) of the event. The ending date is determined by scientific information and is not influenced by reinsurance coverage periods.
