How does PCS define catastrophes when multiple events may be involved?

In cases when two separate weather fronts or an earthquake and its aftershocks may cause insured property losses at or near the same time in the same geographic area, PCS will decide on whether to name one or more catastrophes based on scientific information and claims practicality. PCS staff will analyze the geographic and temporal proximity of the events; review meteorological, seismological and other scientific data concerning the event; and/or consider factors such as an inability on the part of field adjusters to distinguish the damage caused by the various events.
