How does Patagonia Sur plan to ensure the integrity of its reforestation project?
Patagonia Sur has worked closely with Chilean and American scientists in the planning of its reforestation project at Valle California. CONAF (Chile’s national forestry service) will verify that the trees are planted and maintained. We follow internationally recognized “additionality” standards (VCS and CCB) that require that an offset would not have occurred in the absence of the project. Patagonia Sur has also established a reserve fund valued at 50% of the cost of planting each tree for care and maintenance of the trees to ensure their longevity.
