HOW DOES OPEN MIC NIGHT WORK?
We start at 8PM every Friday night and folks from the audience take turns displaying their talent on our red stage until we close at 11PM. There’s an emcee that runs the schedule for the evening and he/she makes announcements from stage between every act. Most of the talent at Open Mic Night is musical in nature, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve seen everything from poetry readings to yo-yo tricks to comic rap acts. Each act gets two songs or eight minutes on the stage at a time and, if they stick around long enough, they are welcome to rotate through as often as they want as the schedule allows. Acts driving in from out of town are rotated into the schedule more frequently as a gesture of appreciation for their effort to cover the distance and participate in Open Mic Night. We provide a drum kit and minimal backline gear for people who want to play in a band setting, but most of our acts are acoustic or low-volume electric.
