How does open-heart surgery work?
A finger-sized plastic tube containing a valve, called a conduit, is implanted. This is to connect the heart’s right ventricle to the blood vessels of the lung. But, because the valve contained in them becomes more and more inefficient, it causes a lot of blood to trickle back into the right ventricle. This means the right ventricle gets overworked, and the patient becomes very tired. So, a conduit is not a solution for life. This is why people have to have operations every seven -10 years.
