With many heading-hold gyros it is standard practice for the unit to calibrate itself to the current transmitter neutral point every time you switch the system on. This is deliberately not the case with the HeliCommand: when you switch the system on, it is only the zero point of the sensor which is re-calibrated. It therefore makes no difference whether you touch the tail rotor stick at the moment of switching the system on; on the other hand you must have set the transmitter trim to the correct neutral point once (during test-flights). This value is fixed at 1.52 ms. In heading-hold mode the neutral point is correct when the tail rotor servo can be moved to different positions, and the tail remains still, without slowly changing track. For this reason it is best to set the trim on the ground! Incidentally, the trim is not defined using the Set button; Set is used for calibrating elevator (pitch-axis) and aileron (roll-axis).
